Faked Tests on Water in China Sparks an Outrage

There has been a major outrage sparked in China nearing the end of August 2018, as government officials have sent investigators, to the country’s Hunan province, when they discovered that local officials have been accused of not providing the correct data at one of the regions water monitoring stations.

China is a very strict country and above anything else, doesn’t tolerate lying, which has been the case with Faked water tests.

The officials have placed sensors to measure the water quality of the Lujiang River in bottled mineral water instead and have thus provided false information about the quality of the river’s water.

The Lujiang River is situated in Zhuzhou and is very badly polluted by sewage water. That is why reports displaying clean results, was a little too far-fetched, to begin with.

There is also a rather big controversy regarding whether local official companies in China follow environmental policies altogether, as the occurrence of polluted water is often not reported by local officials to begin with.

The environment ministry, who is investigating the Zhuzhou case, have promised punishment and violations to anyone involved in providing them with faked results.

Keeping up with the monitoring of water in China

Considering that water monitoring is taking place at 2,050 sites within the country and any false results could potentially bring harm to thousands, if not more, people, the Chinese government have vowed to increase their efforts in monitoring and fighting pollution in the country.

Unfortunately, it’s not only the water quality that poses a problem, but also the air that needs to be addressed too.

According to a report in 2016, over 80% of rural wells in the northern-east region of China contained unsafe water and 13,000 companies also failed to meet the required environmental standards, which means that it has a long way to go before results can really be seen. The fact that the government is taking the quality of water and the addressing of pollution more seriously is, however, a step in the right direction.
