I would like to start by saying how much I love the design of this k-cup. I am a huge fan of the color they chose, and it actually made me even more excited to try it.

Medium Coffee, though being the most popular roast in America, has never seemed like anything special to me. My pallet strongly prefers darker roasts of coffee, because I appreciate the strength of the flavor. On the opposite side of the spectrum, with a lighter roast of coffee, you get an opportunity to experience the origin flavors of the bean. Medium roast coffees, at least in my opinion, seem to muddle those two together into a strange middle territory. It just tastes like coffee.

Do not misunderstand me when I say that. I very much enjoyed the way this coffee brewed. It was smooth, with a pleasant combination of acidic and bitter. The flavor was strong enough to taste, but not so strong that it overpowered my mouth. The aftertaste was mild, and seemed to linger for a moment or two.

There were no distinct notes of fruit or sweet of a lighter roast. There was no bold and full bodied flavors that you would expect from a darker roast. It just tasted like a cup of coffee. It was beautifully consistent, and carried with it a wonderful mouthfeel. It was smooth and did not feel as oily as a a common dark roast.

Despite my aversion to Medium roast coffee, it was still a fantastic cup of coffee. Real Good Coffee Co has yet to disappoint me. I decided on a 3/5 ranking because there was nothing special about the coffee, in my opinion. It was a lovely flavor, and quite smooth on the pallet, but there was nothing memorable about the coffee. I would likely add a flavored creamer of some sort to this coffee. I think the more mild roast would be very receptive to a vanilla or hazelnut flavor. If coffee mate is your best friend in the morning, I would  consider this coffee a perfect match for you. There’s nothing wrong at all with a heavy dose of cream and sugar in the mornings.
