Coffee drinkers nowadays are becoming more like connoisseurs. They’re taking a greater interest in the different ways you can make Coffee, and the various flavours available.

The latest trend to really take off was the cold Brew coffee over the summer and now coffee shops are taking it to the next level with the Nitro Cold Brew, which is becoming more available in the UK.

Here in the Keurig offices, we love all things coffee, and whilst Nitro Cold Brew is not something we offer, it does interest us. Here’s a quick run-down of this growing coffee trend.

What Is Nitro Cold Brew?  

Nitro Cold Brew is Cold Brew infused with Nitrogen gas. The gas is poured through a pressurized valve and then comes out through a tap. This creates a smooth, creamy texture with a foamy top. If you love drinking your coffee black, this trend is for you!

The Evolution of Nitro Cold Brew

The UK are rather late to catch onto this trend, compared to the USA, where it’s been around for a few years. The Nitro Cold Brew trend caught on in America when Stumptown Coffee Roasters introduced Nitro Cold Brew on draft in their cafes. In 2015, the company then started to produce Nitro Cold Brew in cans too.

Following this, Starbucks made Nitro Cold Brew available at over 500 stores across the USA by the end of summer 2016.

According to The Telegraph, this is one of the major coffee trends of 2016.  The Guardian also states that this “is predicted to have broader appeal in the UK and market leaders Costa and Starbucks are planning trials in the new year.”

In a Bloomberg article, the CEO of consultancy Allegra Strategies said: “Cold-brew coffee is a high margin product that can add a further leg up to growth for the UK market.” This demonstrates that this innovative brewing technique has great potential to appeal to UK coffee consumers.
