Major Competitors in the Pretzel Chains Business

If you’re seriously considering jumping into the Pretzel Chains Business, then there’s no better option out there than Pretzelmaker. Pretzelmaker has been franchising since 1992, which means that it’s safe to say that we know what we’re doing on the franchising end of things. We have continually been ranked on Entrepreneur‘s Franchise 500 list, reaching as high as 99th. Not only do we have more than 325 stores throughout the United States, we also boast more than 50 international stores as well.

Of course, if you’re considering an investment in one of our Pretzelmaker franchises, it’s a good idea to take a close look at our competitors, so that you’ll know who your competition will be. Following are some of the top pretzel chains business competitors that you should know about:

  1. Auntie Anne’s

Auntie Anne’s is arguably one of the biggest pretzel competitors. They began in Lancaster, PA, back in 1988 as a family owned and operated business. Currently, they have more than 1,500 locations around the world. They are also regularly ranked in the top 100 of Entrepreneur‘s yearly Franchise 500 list.

  1. Wetzel’s Pretzels

Wetzel’s Pretzels was first established in 1994 out of Pasadena, CA, by Rick Wetzel and Bill Phelps, two colleagues working for Nestle. They began franchising only two years later and currently have 305 locations in 28 different states and six countries.

  1. Philly Pretzel Factory

Philly Pretzel Factory was founded by Dan DiZio and Len Lehman in (you guessed it) Philadelphia, back in 1998. They didn’t begin franchising their business until 2004. They currently have more than 150 franchise locations throughout the U.S. Although at one point they reached 282nd on the Entrepreneur Franchise 500 list, they are currently only ranked 351st.

  1. Ben’s Soft Pretzels

Ben’s Soft Pretzels was first established in 2008 by three entrepreneurs in Indiana. They began franchising in 2013 and have a lease and license agreement with several large retail stores, including Meijer and Walmart, which is why they’re often found within those stores. Their pretzels are unique in that they were inspired by old Amish recipes. At the moment, there are around 76 franchise locations in the Midwest as well as in Florida and Alabama.

They are currently unranked on the Entrepreneur Franchise 500 list.

  1. We’re Rolling Pretzel Company

We’re Rolling Pretzel Company was founded in Ohio in 1996 and began franchising in 2000. Although their initial investment and franchise fees are both quite low compared to other pretzel chain businesses, they are currently unranked on the Entrepreneur Franchise 500 list, and their franchise locations have been steadily diminishing since 2007.

While these are some of the top competitors in the pretzel chain business, they don’t compare to our Pretzelmaker franchise. For more information about investing in one of our pretzel franchises, be sure to contact us at Pretzelmaker today.
