We’d heard so many people asking if we’d ever Stayed in an Airbnb, so we thought – let’s just do it, and find out what it’s like! We weren’t disappointed! (well, maybe a little bit when it rained on the last day, but that’s no fault of Airbnb).

The first “port of call” was to book the Red Funnel Ferry crossing. We arrived a couple of hours early for our crossing but were allowed on an earlier trip which gave us a bit of extra time on the Island.

As we neared the Isle of Wight we started to see more sailing boats (it was Cowes weekend).

We stayed in a studio Flat in Newport, on the Isle of Wight: http://bit.ly/isleofwightairbnb. The flat is right in the centre of Newport, so we didn’t have to walk far for life’s essentials such as Starbucks and Loo roll Conveniently tucked away down an adjoining alleyway, the flat was just perfect. In the centre of town, but not too busy a location at the same time.

Easy to book through our host, Jason we agreed upon a check-in date. We were soon sent details of how to access the flat via a key-safe, along with helpful tips for things to do whilst on the Island. The flat was extremely modern, clean and well looked after, with a big kitchen and open plan dining area. It’s perfect for 1 or 2 people looking to explore the island for a few days or a few weeks. The Studio is the size of a typical Hotel room, only with the added benefits of your own bathroom, kitchen, washing facilities and central location in Newport.

We parked our car just across the street, using the Paybyphone app to keep the ticket valid, eventually moving the car to a long stay car park just around the corner. If you know you’ll need to park somewhere, find out if that street uses an App and get it downloaded ahead of your trip. Trying to download an App on flaky 3G near the coast whilst the traffic warden lurks nearby is pressure I can do without. Take my word for it

Here is our favourite Beach, St Helens. Lovely and clean, and reasonably quiet (this picture was taken at about 10 am). There is a great Cafe by the seated area called “Baywatch on the Beach” for delicious sandwiches and great coffee. We stayed all day, and I managed to get a nice run in across the coastal path which starts just around the corner.
