EASTER WEEKEND IN THE REFUGE BASEMENT – FEATURING SO FLUTE AND A LOVE FROM OUTER SPACE

After the exhilarating success of the Return of the Electric Chair in the recently rediscovered basement of The Refuge, which truly managed to capture the parties original spirit, two more club nights have been added to space that will continue the celebration of no-frills, unadulterated and inclusive gatherings for like-minded music lovers.

The Easter Weekend in the basement of The Refuge will host the established Manchester night, So Flute on Friday April 14th and then the metagalactic hedonism that is A Love From Outer Space that will anchor itself under the pavements on Saturday April 15th.

So Flute emerged five years ago as a fully-formed idea – namely to bring ‘a melting-pot of worldwide music that focuses on a strong, soulful undercurrent’ to Manchester. Since its inception, resident tastemakers Baloo, Bolts, Danuka and Yadava have put on monthly shows from many up-and-comers and big-hitters alike, including Gilles Peterson, who came to celebrate their first birthday celebrations. Now bringing their fun and forward-thinking music to the belly of Oxford Road for their 5th birthday with this special party.

A Love From Outer Space, or ALFOS as it is lovingly referred to, is the brainchild of Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston. Formed originally as an outlet for music that the crate-digging Sabres Of Paradise and Hardway Brothers pair couldn’t shoehorn into their usual sets, Sean Johnston and Andrew Weatherall’s creation has already gained a devoted following over the last seven years, refreshingly populated with as many punters over 40 as under 30, and has found a home in European cities and festivals alike. Their cosmic musical journey will bring this basement Easter weekend to a close in style.

Over the entire Easter bank holiday weekend the public bar of The Refuge will be open as usual, and the soundtrack will be provided by residents DJs, so if you’d decided to rave in the basement or simply drink and mingle in the bar, The Refuge is a place to Come As You Are this Easter.
