I consider myself blessed for two main reasons. First, it was my first to visit the Summer Capital of the Philippines, Baguio City and I happen to passed by, not just one time, but two times in the famous Kennon Road. I only hear or read about it in the news and books. The second reason is, I’m still alive. Only did I learn that Kennon Road is one of the most dangerous roads in the Philippines, if not the whole world.

Kennon Road is notorious for its winding or zigzag road before reaching the Baguio City proper.

1. Benguet Road was its former name.

2. 113 years old. It was launched for public use on January 29, 1905.

3. US$2.7 million – was the cost of the project. It was controversial among American politicians at the time because of the high cost of the road project.

4. Kennon Road was named after Col. Lyman Walter Vere Kennon, the military engineer who spearheaded the project.

5. Kennon Road is 33.5 km long (20.8 miles).

6. Closed for 14 months after the earthquake in July 1990. It reopened to the public in September 1991.

7. The famous Lion’s Head is located along Kennon Road.

8. Deadly accidents and deaths happen almost every year during rainy season. At least one death a year usually because of landslide.

9. It is considered to be one of the most dangerous roads in the world.
