New Livermore Tasting Room

Wood Family Vineyards has opened a new Livermore tasting room located at 2407 Research Drive in eastern Livermore. They are open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from noon to 5.

This is a small family owned winery that produces outstanding wines using only Livermore grown grapes.

The entire family is involved. Rhonda Wood’s passion for wine making lead the family to the Livermore Valley where they have been producing wine since 1996. Rhonda left her career as an airline pilot for US Airways to devote herself to the winery. She is the winemaker while husband, Michael oversees the harvest. Sons Harrison and Parker also pitch in to help with the winemaking process and in the tasting room. In fact, Harrison Wood is the General Manager.

Harrison was our host at a recent tasting we attended. He is a personable young man. We enjoyed learning about his family’s story from his point of view. His enthusiasm for the Livermore Wine Country and his knowledge of their wines made for an entertaining time.

Wood Family successfully produces high quality handcrafted wines. They focus primarily on red wines. However, their one white wine is a Chardonnay called “Para Mas Amigas”, which means “for more girlfriends”. They added this Chardonnay to their wines at the request of Rhonda’s girl friends who wanted a white wine. It’s a delicious wine fermented and aged in French oak barrels, but without an obvious oak flavor. Enjoy the long toasty finish. Wine Enthusiast recently awarded this Chardonnay 92 points and named gave it their Editors Choice Award. It also won a Silver Medal at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition in 2016.

Wood Family Vineyards is known for their fabulous Zinfandels, which usually are sell-outs. “Big Wood Zin” is a blend of Zinfandel from four separate Livermore Valley Zinfandel vineyards along with a small amount of Petite Sirah.

This amazing Zin won BEST OF CLASS at the 2017 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

“Buy Bueno”, which means “Very Good” in Spanish is a blend of Zinfandels from four different vineyards as well along with 1% Petite Sirah. This wine is slightly sweet but that sweetness mingles with black pepper flavors. A delightful wine. Another favorite is “GSM”, which is a blend made of Grenache 48%, Syrah 32%, and Mourvedre 20%s.

Even though the tasting room is new, this winery has consistently been producing high quality wines for years. They were previously open during special events and for wine tasting at their winery by appointment.

Locals and visitors to the area are happy to welcome this new Livermore tasting room to the Livermore Wine Country. Head on over to taste some of the very best wines of Livermore. Click here to browse the complete list of Livermore wine tasting rooms.
