6 Effective Tips For Working On A Plane

To some people, travel means a vacation from all things work related but, for many people, in-flight time is just another day at the office. Most people, like me, actually get more work done on airplanes because there are no office distractions. So to help fellow business travelers like myself, I thought i’d share a few tips to effectively working on an airplane.

1. Book Flights That Offer Wi-Fi
Yes, more and more planes are offering Wi-Fi but, to be safe, find out which planes have Wi-Fi before booking. You can find this out on many major travel websites or you can check out this article by Gizmodo that not only tells you which airline’s have Wi-Fi but also ranks their service for you.

2. Get a Tablet or a Keyboard
One of the biggest challenges of working on an airplane is not having enough space to type on your Laptop or Tablet. As a way of solving this, consider a a Tablet that comes with a keyboarder grab an external keyboard at your local computer store.

3. Upgrade to a Row With More Room
As you can tell (from tip number 2) space is a real issue when working on an airplane. Luckily, you have a few options to better prepare. Economy or comfort rows usually have the space one needs to adequately work without feeling cramped. If those aren’t options, taking an aisle seat can make a world of difference!

4. Buy a Wi-Fi Pass
Most people buy a day or flight pass for in-flight Wi-Fi, but as a business traveler, it may save you time and money if you travel more than once per month. You can buy one on Gogo, an internet provider of all the major domestic airliners.

5. Bring an Extra Laptop Battery or Power Station
While many major airports now have docking stations for all of your devices, in-flight is a different story. There’s nothing worse than opening up your Laptop or Tablet ready to work only to find that you have no battery. This is why investing in an extra batter pack is definitely worth your while.

6. Purchase a Privacy Screen Protector
If you don’t want your neighbors to get a glimpse of all your important documents or emails then purchase a privacy screen protector. These things were literally designed so that only the person sitting directly in front of the screen can view it — not your neighbor!
