Now Exeter is set to get its own Monopoly board – but which local streets and landmarks should it feature?

This time last year, Rochester and Canterbury were vying to be the next official Monopoly board, with Canterbury crowned the eventual winner following a highly charged public vote.

Now another cathedral city – Exeter, in Devon – is set to get its own Monopoly board after seeing off rival West Country county towns Truro, Dorchester, Taunton and Trowbridge.

The Board will be launched in time for Christmas by games company Winning Moves UK, endorsed by Hasbro – and the timing is excellent as this year is the 80th anniversary of Monopoly. In fact, the announcement of the new board was made exactly 80 years to the day since the board game first hit the shelves.

Graham Barnes, Monopoly Executive at Winning Moves UK, said:

“Hearty congratulations to Exeter and commiserations to the other four. Dorchester ran Exeter very close all the way through the polling and at one point we were thinking we may have to roll the Monopoly dice.

“We’re delighted to now be producing this official version of MONOPOLY based on the most popular and loved landmarks of Exeter.”

Winning Moves is now asking the public to suggest which landmarks, streets or places should feature as squares on the board. Plenty of suggestions are currently flying around on Twitter:

On a personal note, my vote will be for the Quay as I bought my wife’s engagement ring from the antiques centre there. It would be fantastic to be able to revisit it in Monopoly form.

To make your suggestion, email [email protected] or post it on the Exeter Monopoly Facebook page. But hurry, the poll closes on Sunday 29 March.
