Learn all About Traveling to Thailand: Krabi Island

Thailand is a beautiful country in Southeast Asia that has become increasingly popular with tourists in recent years. This is due to the low cost but high quality of living afforded to foreign visitors. The country is renowned for its welcoming locals and tropical climate, as well as for its beautiful beaches.

A large portion of the north of Thailand is not connected to any sea or ocean. However, the views and beaches on offer in the south are astonishing to visit. Thailand’s beaches are sandy. The water is typically a very clear blue or slightly green. Taking an Island tour is one of the best ways to take in some rays and enjoy this tropical paradise. While the north of Thailand is stunningly beautiful in its own ways, the southern part of the country closer to the water is a major tourist hub with a staggering number of yearly visitors.

The most commonly visited islands in Thailand are Koh Lanta, Koh Samui, Phuket, and the islands around Krabi, of which Koh Phi Phi is frequently chosen for its scenic views and serene water quality. Krabi itself is actually a town on the mainland, so a krabi island tour company of some variety will most likely be necessary, unless you plan on renting and driving a boat yourself, which isn’t really the greatest idea.

While many of the larger islands are home to resorts and fairly built up areas to service the tourism industry, there are approximately 200 islands of varying size on the coastline of Krabi. A large number of them are too small to be really worth visiting, lest you risk running your boat aground. But then, there are enough of them to make island hopping a fun and worthwhile activity.

Any of these bigger islands will be home to white sandy beaches, beautiful palm trees, and very intricate cave systems. It isn’t recommended that you go exploring on your own in any caves you may find, as there is a huge risk of something bad happening, and you having no way of getting in contact with anyone to help you out.

Since there are so many islands out there, if you only have a limited amount of time in the Krabi area, it will be highly recommended that you find a local guide that knows which of the islands are worth going to and which aren’t. Locals know where to find the best beaches, lagoons, and areas for specialized activities like snorkeling or scuba diving.

Spend your day exploring some of the smaller islands and postcard-worthy scenes. Then cap it all off by taking in the dining and nightlife scene around Koh Phi Phi or Koh Lanta. These are two of the bigger islands in the area that have an almost dizzying number of restaurants, hotels, bars, and anything else an intrepid traveler might need to unwind after a long day of island hopping.

While there are several places similar to Krabi in the world or even in Thailand, the sheer number of white beaches and enough rooms to actually get comfortable, compared to more common vacation destinations, make Krabi stand in a league of its own.
