Terrific Tuesdays: The Tree of Life and It’s Tough to be a Bug!

No trip to Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World is complete without a picture in front of The Tree of Life! Not only is it the icon of Animal Kingdom, it houses a fantastic 3D (I think it is more of a 4D – sight, sound, smell and touch) show called “It’s Tough to be a Bug”!

I find this tree fascinating to look at, wander around, and it’s a “must do” for pictures! The Tree of Life does not have living leaves, they are all man-made and applied by hand. There are 102,000 leaves – can you imagine the time consuming task of making sure each of these are applied perfectly! There are over 300 carvings of various animals in its trunk and limbs. It is hard to walk slow enough entering the theater to count them all. However if you have the time, there is a path around The Tree of Life that will let you just walk and look! How many can you count?

Once down in the theater to see “It’s Tough to be a Bug”, be sure to check out the hilarious movie posters scattered all around. These are so amusing and will keep you occupied waiting for the theater doors to open. You are given special bug eye glasses to wear for the show, but don’t put them on beforehand! Something also interesting – listen to the sounds, the bugs and the announcements. As usual Disney has thought of everything!

Keep in mind, this is in the dark and some things can be frightening to small children. I sat our 4-year old Grand-daughter on my lap and had her look down when I knew things that would scare her came out. Our 12-year old Grandson thought it was great, but was a little unsure of the cockroaches! After all they do get to exit the theater first.

Over all, this is a must do on our trips, but keep in mind the ages of everyone in the party. What do you think of the show?
