Yamunotri – Birthplace of Goddess Yamuna

During the chardham yatra, Yamunotri will be the one sacred places of the Chardham. Its about 3295 meters high above sea level. It is located in the Uttarkashi District of Uttarakhand.To reach yamunotri, first you have to go for Hanuman Chatti. Hanuman chatti is a drive away from Dharasu or Barkot. From Hanuman CHatti, there is a trek to yamunotri temple around 14km. It may become hectic but you can reduce by taking local jeep to Janki Chatti and by this you can save 8km. Once you reach Janki Chatti then you can take Palanquin or Pony to yamunotri. There weather condition mosty becomes harsh for journey and forest are too dense. The Yamunotri is the attraction of the Yamunotri tour.

The idol of Yamuna mata is built of black marble. It looks beautiful. This yamunotri yatra was built by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal to offer obeisance to Yamuna mata. There is a hot spring at Yamunotri in which devotee boils rice and potato wrapped in cloth as Prasad.

The temple remains open from 6am to 8pm. The arti is performed everyday between 6:30pm to 7:30pm.There are some more places near Yamunotri which should not be forgotten if you are going to visit Yamunotri.

Surya Kund

Surya Kund is located near Yamunotri Temple. the hot spring gets its name from Yamuna river which is thought to be the offspring of Surya. Surya Kund is considered ass a sacred place as it is situated near the Yamunotri.

Janki Chatti

Janki Chatti is the closer spot near Hanuman Chatti. It is also consider as a base for the people who are travelling to Yamunotri dham. The hot spring is the main attraction of Janki Chatti. It is surrounded by the mountains from all sides and itself located at the height of 2700 meters.

Divya Shila

Divya Shila is the rock pillar located near Surya Kund and Yamunotri Temple. This rock pillar known as Divya Shilla, also called ‘Slab of Divine light’. Before entering the yamunotri temple, devotee offers their prayers to Divya shilla.
