We’ll start the day at Pumphouse and float to Radium, fishing both from the shore, from shallow rock banks in the river, and cast directly from the boat. We’ll then pass into the red rock canyons and cast for species that are hiding under rocks, in eddies, or finding the currents under the rapids. Upper Colorado River Multi Day Guided Fly Fishing Trips

Sometimes, one day isn’t enough to see the best of the Upper Colorado. Explore past State Bridge onto the lower sections of the river, and discover a whole new world to the Upper Colorado. We’ll start by camping out at Rancho Del Rio, right on the river and then put in where we left off and start by following steep sandstone walls while we cast in shadowy pockets beneath the canyon where fish like to hang out for long parts of the sunnier times of the day. At night we’ll get to camp by the river and enjoy the tranquility of Northern Colorado as the stars light up spectacularly above us. The advantage of camping right at the put in point is that we have minimal time between camping and putting the boats in the water. We’ll get to see the Upper Colorado in a way that’s rarely seen other than what the locals experience.

The advantage of the Flattop Wilderness is much of the wilderness is dispersed camping, without any established campsites, which allows for more variability on where to camp and where to fish. Over several days we’ll get to explore some of the most secluded lakes and waterways in the state, fishing for various trout, including cutthroat, brook, and lake trout. We’ll start at Sawhill Ponds on the east side of Boulder, with its easy accessibility and calm waters, and a Rocky Mountain backdrop. This gives us the opportunity to fish right from the shore, which is especially helpful for beginners who are getting their first exposure to casting. From Sawhill Ponds, we’ll advance to Boulder Creek, which runs the length of Boulder Canyon. The tailwaters of Eleven Mile Canyon have exploded into another of Colorado’s great fly-fishing rivers, thanks in part to the effort of years of conservation. The South Platte River is teeming with life and has turned into one of Colorado’s hidden secrets.
