Upper Colorado River Single Day Guided Fly Fishing Trips

The Upper Colorado River Basin is one of the most uniquely spectacular areas in the state. Red rock canyons give way to vast expanses of prairies with the sub-ranges of the Rocky Mountains rising majestically in the background. The Upper Colorado is renown for it’s rafting and fly fishing, with opportunities to fish from the shore or the boat. The Upper Colorado is one of the few rivers that fishes year-round, with a number of trout species including brown, rainbow, and cutthroat greenback trout. We’ll start the day at Pumphouse and float to Radium, fishing both from the shore, from shallow rock banks in the river, and cast directly from the boat. We’ll then pass into the red rock canyons and cast for species that are hiding under rocks, in eddies, or finding the currents under the rapids. Explore the best of the Upper Colorado River in a single day. Guided Upper Colorado Full Day Trip

Upper Colorado River Multi Day Guided Fly Fishing Trips

Sometimes, one day isn’t enough to see the best of the Upper Colorado. Explore past State Bridge onto the lower sections of the river, and discover a whole new world to the Upper Colorado. We’ll start by camping out at Rancho Del Rio, right on the river and then put in where we left off and start by following steep sandstone walls while we cast in shadowy pockets beneath the canyon where fish like to hang out for long parts of the sunnier times of the day. At night we’ll get to camp by the river and enjoy the tranquility of Northern Colorado as the stars light up spectacularly above us. The advantage of camping right at the put in point is that we have minimal time between camping and putting the boats in the water. We’ll get to see the Upper Colorado in a way that’s rarely seen other than what the locals experience.

Backpacking Lakes of the Flattop Wilderness

The landscape of the Flattop Wilderness is nothing short of extraordinary. It’s red rock mesas and rushing waterways, lakes, and streams that meander between the White River National Forest. There is no better way to see the Flattop Wilderness than to backpack and discover the deepest reaches of the wilderness. The advantage of the Flattop Wilderness is much of the wilderness is dispersed camping, without any established campsites, which allows for more variability on where to camp and where to fish. Over several days we’ll get to explore some of the most secluded lakes and waterways in the state, fishing for various trout, including cutthroat, brook, and lake trout. Trout in the Flattop Wilderness are especially known for their size. For a true wilderness fly-fishing experience, the Flattop Wilderness is the ultimate secluded trip.

Front Range Explorer – Boulder Creek and Sawhill Ponds – Fly Fishing Boulder

Some of the best fly-fishing in the state is right out our front door. Boulder Creek and Sawhill Ponds in Boulder offer easy, laid-back fly-fishing, with minimal approach and maximum time spent on the water. We’ll start at Sawhill Ponds on the east side of Boulder, with its easy accessibility and calm waters, and a Rocky Mountain backdrop. This gives us the opportunity to fish right from the shore, which is especially helpful for beginners who are getting their first exposure to casting. From Sawhill Ponds, we’ll advance to Boulder Creek, which runs the length of Boulder Canyon. This ultra-classic Boulder waterway features some of the best fishing on the Front Range year-round, filled with fighting brown trout that make for thrilling catches. Rocky Mountain National Park Fly Fishing Trips

The pride of fly-fishing in Colorado is undoubtedly Rocky Mountain National Park. With it’s breathtaking backdrop, plethora of wildlife including elk, moose, coyotes, and black bears, and it’s pristine, remote waterways, fishing in Rocky Mountain National Park is a true adventure of it’s own. Rocky Mountain National Park’s lakes and streams are home to brown, cutthroat, and rainbow trout, as well as the cutthroat greenback trout, which is native only to Colorado. We’ll get to explore some of the northernmost lakes of the Mummy Range, one of the most remote and secluded ranges in the park, or discover the streams of Beaver Meadows, with an extraordinary view over the Continental Divide. Whether you’re looking for a full day fly fish into the lower regions of the park, or a multi-day trek into the high alpine reaches and far off lakes and streams, Rocky Mountain National Park is Colorado Fly Fishing at it’s absolute best.

Eleven Mile Fly Fishing Trips

The tailwaters of Eleven Mile Canyon have exploded into another of Colorado’s great fly-fishing rivers, thanks in part to the effort of years of conservation. The South Platte River is teeming with life and has turned into one of Colorado’s hidden secrets. The river fishes year round and is especially great for it’s teeming stocks of brown trout that can reach up to 17-inches in length. Rainbow and cutthroat trout are also plentiful. From early spring to fall, the river is running at it’s best with a little more slowdown in the winter. Still for anglers who love a challenge and want to discover one of the pristine ‘locals only’ areas of Colorado, this is local fly fishing at it’s best.
