Bath – The best UK City to visit

Bath is our favourite city in the UK that we have visited so far. We visited in May 2016 and the weather was beautiful, it was so sunny and warm which made Bath look even more perfect! It is known for its natural hot springs and 18th-century Georgian architecture. It is such a special city as it is home to 2000 year old Roman baths. Here’s what we got up to on our break here ..

When we first arrived in Bath we went straight to our hotel which was a Premier Inn. The location was perfect, so close to everything and we got a really good deal on it. Before we went to Bath we had done some research on where to eat and found a really cute tearoom called Sally Lunn’s Historic Eating House & Museum. This is the oldest house in Bath and where we headed to firstly for some food. They serve a famous Sally Lunn bun which is just delicious and the menu offers a variety of different sweet and savoury options, we would really recommend visiting this place if you can get in, the food is absolutely amazing and there is a cute little museum in the cellar showing you all about how they made bread back when the building was first built.

Next we decided to check out the Roman Baths. The baths are just amazing and not something you expect to see in the UK! There are four main features: the Sacred Spring, the Roman Temple, the Roman Bath House and the museum. We absolutely loved this place and have always been interested in Roman history and visiting the baths was just like being in Rome! With so much history and learning about the way it was built using the natural hot springs that run under bath city it’s some amazing engineering that you can’t believe was built so long ago. The natural hot springs sit at 46C so you can see the hot steam rising from them. There was also the chance to sample some of the spring waters.

After this we decided to explore around the centre of Bath. The cobbled streets and this historic building make it such a pretty place to walk around. Bath Abbey is right next to the Roman baths and is such a stunning building to look at. We stumbled across a vintage fair in the Bath Guildhall which was really fun to look around with some really cool vintage clothes and accessories. Before we went to Bath we did some research on the most popular things to do there. Royal Victoria Park was one of them so we decided to head here for a walk around. The park has some beautiful gardens and we would recommend having a stroll here if you have the time when visiting Bath.

We spent the rest of the afternoon just exploring the centre some more and doing some shopping. On the evening we went for a delicious meal at Miller & Carter.

We spent our second day at the most unreal spa, Thermae Spa Bath. We could not recommend this place enough, it is unbelievable!! It is Britains only natural thermal spa. The spa provide slippers and robes which were included as part of our spa package. It has an open air rooftop pool with the most beautiful views over the city of Bath and the surrounding countryside. There is an indoor Minerva bath named after the Roman Goddess of Health & Wisdom with a lazy river which is so relaxing. There are also 4 different scented steam rooms. We also had a couples massage which was such a lovely experience. We finished off our time with lunch in the Springs Cafe Restaurant. The food here is very delicious and was a perfect finish to our time at what is by far the best spa we have ever been to and the major highlight of our trip to Bath.

It was then time for us to head back home and we were so sad to be leaving what had become our favourite city in the UK! We will most definitely be visiting again. Thanks for taking the time to read our blog post, let us know in the comments if there was anything we missed on our visit so that we can plan for our next trip!
