De Pontsteiger

More and more people want to live in Amsterdam, so the city is trying like crazy to build new houses. All over the city you can find new construction projects. A challenge, because Amsterdam doesn’t have that much space to begin with. One of the more ambitious project is the imposing Pontsteiger, or the ferrydock. It’s nearing completion and when it’s done it will be visible from many places in the city, at 90 meters in total height. It’s meant to be purely residential, and especially the top is reserved for the really, really rich people, but it’s already looking to be a magnificent structure. I’ll go back to this one once the new neighbourhood it’s in, the Houthavens (wood harbour) is a bit more finished from old harbour district to new residential area.

Oh, and I want to apologize for the really bad quality of some of the photos. All of the photos I share here are taken with my phone, a Galaxy S8. With proper lighting it is pretty good. Probably the best phone camera I know of. However in the evening it just doesn’t get enough light to really do justice to what you see. I do hope that at least the impression of the stories that I’m trying to tell are getting across.
