We only have this one planet, let’s try and keep our home clean and green! All of us do worry about the environment, but often we’re not sure what we can do to contribute. With our busy schedules, it is not possible to run tree plantation drives across the face of the earth every day. In honor of World Environment Day, here are a few things which you can do in your daily life at Office to make a change!
1. Use pens that can be refilled, so you’re not generating plastic waste ever so regularly. You fill also find that this is a much cheaper alternative in the long run.
2. Try and use very little office supplies, and reuse them whenever possible, avoid using rubber bands, staplers etc.
3. Avoid printing out documents, and in a scenario where you must take out a print, use smaller fonts and adjust the printer settings to ‘eco-mode’, if it has one. Also, print on both sides of the paper.
4. Use updated computer equipment, the newer ones are more energy efficient. Also make it a habit to turn off your computer or put it on standby mode. Every second counts!
5. Use CFL and LED bulbs wherever possible, they use very low energy and produce the same output. Also, turn off unnecessary lights, for eg. washroom lights need not stay on all day long.
6. Encourage the staff to use proper plates and mugs instead of disposable plates and cups, it hardly takes a minute to wash a plate.
7. Ensure that there are a few plants inside the office, it is great for recycling the air and it looks pretty!
8. Office memos need not be printed out separately for everyone, one copy can be circulated amongst everyone.
9. Agendas for meetings can be displayed using a projector, instead of printing them out. You can even use white boards for the same.
10. Use cloth towels instead of paper towels in the washroom, also make sure to close taps properly to avoid drips.
These may seem like very small things, but ignoring these habits can cause considerable damage as well. Do your bit, this is our home and our responsibility!
