It’s finally time! I am starting to share my photos and adventures from this Winter, that’s why there was a little break between posts. I had to get all my pictures ready to kick this off the right way, with the best of the best, or at least my favorites. I wanted to give you a taste of what a Wyoming winter is like and hopefully inspire you to make a trip out there for a little winter getaway. Yes, it’s cold. Yes, it’s snowy. Yes, it’s expensive in Jackson. Yes, it’s worth it.
I want to give a little preview of what I did and saw working there over the winter. I was about halfway between the Tetons and Yellowstone, both which were hard to visit because of seasonal road closures. I spent a lot of time drinking juice in Jackson and looking for moose in the Gros Ventre area. I didn’t save any money, but it was totally worth it. I probably wouldn’t go back to live in the snow ( I don’t really like winter,) but I’m so glad I went once and got to see the Tetons every week and sometimes from my room, and bison in the road, and my very first wolf. I’ll leave it at that and here we go! Better start packing your bags for next winter now.
Tips for visiting in the winter:
- Bring lots of warm clothes. It can get pretty cold. I love my Sorel boots and Smartwool socks.
- Rent snowshoes from somewhere in Jackson and explore Gros Ventre or Grand Teton National Park.
- If you want to see Yellowstone in the winter, you can only go by snowmobile or snow coach.
- Keep your distance from the wildlife. You’re going into their home. Just keep that in mind.
- Don’t touch or feed the animals. Pleeeeeease.
- Even though it’s winter and bears should be hibernating, I still always brought bear spray with, just in case.
- Know how to use the bear spray and DO NOT spray it inside.
- Don’t forget to drink lots of water. Even though it’s cold, you can still get dehydrated.
- Sunscreen isn’t a bad idea on sunny days either, especially since it reflects off the snow.
