Hawke’s Bay – The Kids Capital

Hawke’s Bay is fast becoming the kids capital, full of fun, adventurous activities for the young (and young at heart). Check out our top recommendations for things to do in Hawke’s Bay with your children.

The National Aquarium of New Zealand

The National Aquarium of New Zealand features a reef tank which creates a true underwater experience, and a typical New Zealand Rocky shore environment. It’s also home to many sharks, stingray and hundreds of fish species that can be caught along the East Coast of New Zealand. There are also eels, trout, sea horses, turtles, octopus, tropical marine fish, Kiwi, Tuatara, water dragons, native frogs and a large crocodile on display. And while you’re at the aquarium you can also get up close with some of your favourite animals, including New Zealand’s native Little Blue Penguin.

Arataki Honey

Learn all about honey bees, how honey is made and see the bees up close. Arataki Honey offers a unique look into the world of honey, with hives behind protective glass, bees under microscopes, and a team always happy to answer any of your bee related questions. Best of all you can taste all the different types of honey hand-crafted on site.

Hawke’s Bay Farm Yard  Zoo

Since its creation in 2004, Hawke’s Bay Farm Yard Zoo has become a family fav. Known for its atmosphere and educational opportunities. Children can pat and feed the animals which include goats, sheep, llamas and alpacas. They can also see how tall they are compared to a real-life ostrich, emu, deer, and “Haggis”, the 700kg Highland Steer. Pony rides are available for children aged 2+.

Par 2 Mini Golf

Fun for the whole family, Par 2 Mini Golf features two 18 hole mini golf courses. Challenge your friends and family and aim to get your name on the leader board, or play for fun, pose for the webcam, and enjoy the ocean views on offer while you play. The “Pacific Pro-Am” course is full of wacky angles and water hazards that bend around trees and gardens, while the “Deco Drive” course features landscaped gardens, Art Deco arches, and tricky slopes. If you score a hole in one during your game there are awards to be earned and a score of daily prizes.

Kids Cycle and Jump Tracks

Marine Parade’s Junior Bike Track and Pump Track are perfect for kids both little and big. With the Junior Bike Track located next to Napier’s best kids playground it’s the perfect place to spend the day, have a picnic and let the kids enjoy being kids. The pump track located towards the Clive end of Marine Parade is perfect for letting the kids test their BMX skills and see how quickly they can get around the course.

With all this and more, if you’re looking for the perfect family holiday this summer try Hawke’s Bay. It’s full of adventurous, educational and fun activities for the youngest to the oldest in your family. Looking for a place to stay while you’re here? We’d love to host you and your family. We have great facilities for family groups including a games room and a warmed swimming pool. Check out our facilities, or click here to check rates.
