Whale watching

Mirissa has found extra popularity as a Whale Watching hotspot among tourists. The peak season for watching whales is from December to march. It’s indeed an unforgettable trip to find giant blue whales, Fin whales, dolphins and more! There are many resorts, like Mandara Resort Mirissa which provide whale watching excursions to their guests.

Stilt Fishermen

Don’t forget to catch a glimpse of ‘Stilt Fishing’, a traditional fishing method in Sri Lanka. Do take your camera with you to capture the wonderful sight of these fishermen fish skillfully during dawn and dusk. You’ll clearly witness that it’s all about skill and balance!

Food!

You’ll come across many beachside bars and mini food outlets along the coast. Apart from these, there are local boutiques from where you can try out authentic Sri Lankan food like pol roti and coconut treacle hoppers. The delicious hot butter cuttlefish is a popular seafood dish among Sri Lankans!
