Surfing in Maldives – Riding waves

Have you ever wanted to visit Maldives? To swim through the azure and translucent waters or go on a snorkelling adventure of discovering the colourful world of life under the sea. The best part about staying on the island is that most Maldives villas are located right over the water like in Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives, where you can access to the beach and its refreshing waters right from your villa.

Another popular water activity that has started to gain popularity in the beautiful islands of Maldives is Surfing. The ideal months of surfing are between the months of March to October. This is usually known as the southern hemisphere winter where the strong winds bring in roaring waves make it the perfect surfing destination. Peak months are usually in June, July and August where the waves are said to be the biggest. The best surfing areas are in the Northern and Central atolls.

In the North Male atoll, some of the famous waves breaks are known as Pasta Point, Chickens and Lohis which usually gets bigger swells that the breaks in South Male. It should be noted that the atolls in North Male are more accessible as they are more resorts around this year, which means there are a higher number of surfers as well. However, if you want to avoid a lot of the crowds that head here to ride these magnificent waves, the South Male wave breaks smaller than the north waves which is quite ideal.

For those interested in heading to the islands, do make sure you head to the islands during the suggested months for your chance to ride some beautifully striking and gigantic waves! Do ensure appropriate swimwear is worn at all times during your surf. After your surfing trip, perhaps you can explore life under the waves by going on a diving tour!
