6 Reasons Why You Can't Miss Sydneys Mardi Gras Festival

Six reasons why you cannot miss Sydney's Mardi Gras Festival

When?

Every year from Feb-March

2017: Events continue from February 17 through to March 5th

Why should YOU go?

1. Meet friends from all over the globe

More than 20 000 people from far and wide flock Sydney’s streets from February to March every year to enjoy or join in the dazzling array of crafted costumes, floats, bikies, dancers, street performers, famous singers and all else bright and beautiful.  This stuff makes for some awesome photos to put on your Snapchat story and is a place where everyone’s in the mood for a party- positive vibes all round! We all know that song, dance and glitter eliminates the bitter and brings everyone together!

2. Help to further the push for equality of the LGBTQI community

2017 will mark the 39th Mardi Gras Festival in Sydney and signify how far we’ve come with accepting the LGBTQI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer & Intersex) community as equally free people worthy of respect. In saying this, we’ve still got a long way to go! Beneath all the extravagance there is an important statement being made- one of pride, diversity and acceptance. Come and help celebrate and show the world that your generation believes all people deserve equal rights and opportunities.

3. Relish in one of the biggest and brightest parties in the world!

Shirtless dancing men, marching women, the famed Dykes on Bikes and even singers like The Veronicas come to join in one big celebration of gay pride! On the 4th of March at Moore Park the Festival goes out with a blast of a party and banger DJs from High Low to JimJam. If you’re in Sydney, you won’t be able to miss it!

4. There’s tonnes of amusing activities and events in the lead up to the parade

From February 17 Sydney’s Mardi Gras puts together plenty of entertainment to get the good vibes running all throughout the diverse city. Some of the unique activities include same-sex dance classes, self-defence workshops, tug-of-war at the fun-filled Fair Day in Camperdown and even a fancy cocktail party at NSW Parliament House. Cabaret’s, burlesques, theatre performances and exhibitions are just some of the other cool events to keep you wide-eyed all week.

 5. Showcase your creative flare

This is one time and place where the more unique, colourful and creative your dress is, the more you are praised as the prominent and popular. So get crafting, put your Stilettoes on and get your spray tan gleaming because these diverse divas want you and they want you with bells on!

 6. Explore Sydney beyond the festivities

Mardi Gras festival is located at the heart of Australia-Sydney! So while you’re visiting there are plenty of things to do after the Mardi Gras festivities wrap up. Sydney is the largest city in Australia and is known for its iconic Opera House, Harbour Bridge and the TV famous Bondi Beach. You could visit the Sea Life Sydney Aquarium showing off the world’s largest group of all-Australian aquatic life, climb to the top of the infamous Harbour Bridge or take a surf lesson at one of Sydney's pristine beaches.

So what are you waiting for!?

Go celebrate sexuality and shake your tail feathers! ;)
