THE DROSTS – Alberta Family Photographer

I have known Maria my entire life! Our moms were BFFs growing up and then had children around the same time… Maria and my sister were born only a couple months apart and have been BFFs ever since too.  That’s a long history with a Family, which makes this session extra special to me!  Maria and Nicolai recently became carrot farmers – how does one become a carrot farmer, you ask?  Simple.  You buy a farm out in Rolling Hills, Alberta, you plant some carrot seed, you water them, you harvest them and then you distribute them to some major grocery stores.  Easy, right?  Ok, maybe there’s a LOT more to it, but these guys are on an amazing new adventure, working amazingly hard and are producing some AMAZING carrots!  Really, they are the best carrots I’ve ever had!

I drove out to the farm a couple of weeks ago, just before harvest, to do a family session with them.  It was awesome hearing about how the farm is run and what it takes to produce carrots.  We spent some time in the gorgeous sunshine with their boys exploring the farm and then enjoyed a home cooked meal.  There is something so easy about being with people you have known forever!

Maria and Nicolai, thank you for such a wonderful afternoon… for the tour, for the time with your family, for the food and for the conversation!

Soon, these carrots will be in Sobey’s, Safeway and Walmart, be sure to grab a bag… this is the beautiful family who grew them!
