3 Ways You Are Hurting Your Pet Without Even Realizing It

It’s no doubt we all love our pets. For some, they’re like our flesh and blood.

While you want the best for them, you may not know that you could be unintentionally Hurting your pet.

It’s understandable if you don’t have the time you’d like to have with them. After all, the U.S has the most amount of overworked people in the world.

And we know you would never lay a hand on your beloved furry friend but there are other ways you’re hurting their feelings without realizing it. Let’s take a look at some of those ways.

1. The Collar Doesn’t Fit Your Pet Correctly

Whether you have a dog or a cat, collars are important to make sure your pet stays on its leash. Having ones that fit too loose or too snug can cause major issues.

One of those issues is constant rubbing against their skin. When the collar or harness is too tight, it can irritate your pet’s skin or cause them to choke themselves.

One that’s too loose can cause your pet to break away when you’re on your morning walk. To find the perfect balance, you should be able to fit one finger between their skin and the collar for small to medium sized collars. For larger sizes, you should be able to fit two fingers.

2. You Feed Your Pet All the Time

Is your pet obese? Keeping their Food bowl filled constantly can lead to your pet being overweight.

It’s best to keep them on a feeding schedule. This way, you lower their chances of packing on more pounds. If not, their weight could result in some serious health problems.

Now, if you feed your pet scraps from the dinner table, that causes the same problem. Pets can’t digest some of the food like we do. And some ingredients are even poisonous to them.

You’ll want to wean them off the human food first. After doing that, check out this wet dog food for sensitive stomach as their digestion will need help getting back on track.

If you don’t see your pet losing the pounds after changing their eating habits, they may have parasites. If you can’t afford to take them to the vet, there are home remedies for treating intestinal parasites.

3. Punishing For Going in the House

We understand that it can be frustrating to come home after a long day of work to find a huge mess left by your pet. You’re tired and having to clean up after them only adds another chore to the list.

But think of it this way: if you work eight to ten hours a day, you go to the bathroom during that time, right? Your pet has no way of doing so. They can’t take themselves outside and they can only hold it for a certain amount of time.

Eventually, their bladder won’t be able to hold it. Rather than get upset and punish them, be understanding. Yelling or physically shoving their nose into their mess will only teach them to fear you.
