What To Do Before YOUR Audition...
By Explore Talent Editor, Greg McKibben

1. Don’t start practicing your lines the day of the audition. If you’re given 3 days to practice, use all 3 days. Trying to cram everything into 1 day not only makes things harder, it makes you anxious. In a worse case scenario, it may even make you panic. Don’t put yourself into that position. Use every possible block of time you can to practice beforehand.

2. Don’t Drink Milk-Based Products Before Going In To Read. Downing a glass of milk or sipping on a latte from Starbucks is a bad idea before a read. The fat content in dairy products can thicken mucus that is already present. Instead, bring a bottle of water with you to the audition and drink that instead. This will help to thin the mucus present in your throat.

3. Don’t wear white. White washes you out during a screen test. It also distracts from your performance which is the reason you’re there in the first place.

4. Don’t talk to anyone at the audition. Why? Because some actors will attempt to sabotage you before you go in to read. Their goals are in direct opposition to your own, right? With this in mind, some shady individuals will take this opportunity to subvert your attempts at landing the part. If you must talk to others, make a new friend after you read, not beforehand.

5. Don’t be confrontational. Going into the audition, you don’t know who knows who. That intern could be related to the casting director herself so by being confrontational with the newbie, you could be cutting yourself off at the knees without even knowing it. Play it safe and be respectful to everyone once you walk through those doors.
