Baked Brie with Roasted Cranberries

Baked Brie with Roasted Cranberries has a sweet, tangy roasted cranberry orange sauce over warmed Baked Brie. The cranberry sauce comes together in minutes and has three simple ingredients. Everyone will love this naturally gluten free appetizer at your holiday party!

It’s showtime around here. This is that bewitching time of the year when I become a jolly, cranky, festive, crotchety, energized, unhinged woman. The two weeks leading up to the Christmas is when my family gets to endure their mother morphing into one psychotic madwoman.

Here’s how it typically shakes out:

Would you mind making treats for the class holiday party? By the way, they need to be nut, soy, and gluten free with no artificial dyes.

Sure! I’d love to. I’m sure I can figure something out. No problem at all!

ONE WEEK LATER: Stay the hell out of the kitchen! If you ask me for one more thing, I’m driving up to the North Pole and telling Santa how you single handedly sabotaged your own class party!

Mom, what are we going to get our 4 teachers, 6 classroom aides, secretary, bus driver, music teacher, art teacher, gym teacher and crossing guard for Christmas?

Well, Honey, I’d love to still be able to make the mortgage payment this month so we have a nice, warm home to celebrate Christmas in. Why don’t I make homemade treats for everyone? Doesn’t that sound so much nicer than hard, plastic, impersonal gift cards?

THREE DAYS LATER: Stay the hell out of the kitchen! NO! Stop asking! No one’s getting any meals until December 26th. It’s cereal only from here on out.

Mom, are we going to decorate Christmas cookies?

Oh, yes! That sounds like fun. Why don’t you fire up the Christmas music and I’ll whip up some dough?

THREE HOURS LATER: What’s wrong with you people?!  Every sprinkle that drops on the ground means one less Christmas present under the tree. Just get the hell out of the kitchen!

Undeniably, I know it doesn’t have to be this way. I could keep my sanity in check by buying cookies, gift cards, and looking the other way when my kids lack basic fine motor skills.

Or, maybe they could all just stay the hell out of the kitchen.

HOW TO MAKE BAKED BRIE WITH ROASTED CRANBERRIES

Sometimes, just sometimes, I manage to execute tasks a tad more rationally. I was juggling a lot of things this past weekend, but I managed to make this Baked Brie with Roasted Cranberries without making my kids cower out of the kitchen. I’d like to say it was due to my natural zen-like state, but honestly it had more to do with how easy it was to throw together.

The roasted cranberry sauce takes a few minutes to throw together, and your work is done. Baked Brie with Roasted Cranberries would be a perfect holiday appetizer to make because you can make the sauce up to a week ahead of time. When you are ready to serve, pour it over the brie, heat, and you are done. Now you have a fancy, sweet, tangy, delicious holiday appetizer without raging on anyone. Your family will love you for it! Or at least think you’ve become more stabilized…

Baked Brie with Roasted Cranberries

Baked Brie with Roasted Cranberries has a simple roasted cranberry orange sauce over warmed baked brie. Everyone will love this naturally gluten free appetizer!

  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • 1 orange
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, (packed)
  • 8 ounce wheel of brie, (rind trimmed)
  1. Preheat oven to 400ºF. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.

  2. In a medium bowl add brown sugar and cranberries. Zest the orange and add to cranberries. Then add the juice of the zested orange. Stir to combine. Place cranberry mixture on prepared baking sheet and bake for 25 minutes, stirring halfway through.

  3. At this point, you can place the cooled roasted cranberry sauce in an airtight container to store in refrigerator for up to a week.

  4. When ready to serve, heat oven to 375ºF. Place brie in small oven proof dish and pour roasted cranberries over top. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until brie is warmed and softened. Alternatively, you can also serve this without baking the brie. Just pour the roasted cranberry sauce on top and you’re done. Serve either version with baguette slices, crackers, or sliced apples.
