Why Meditate When you can Matcha-tate

In the world of today we have so much at our feet, we are constantly connected and busy trying to fit the most into life. It can become overwhelming – never being able to switch off.  Imagine if there was another way. A moment to pause. To be present. To find calmness, clarity and focus.

…Meditate or Matcha-tate?

Our first taste of Meditation was at an age where we could barely tie our own shoes. As nieces of a Buddhist monk we had the most traditional introduction to meditation that could ever be had. We can remember going to visit our uncle and sitting on the floor of a massive temple in Asia, crossing our legs, closing our eyes and trying our hardest to think of nothing … a difficult task for our young racing minds, and something we still try to master every day. But thinking about meditation in this traditional ideology of spirituality, can be quite intimidating, and the true essence of what meditation embodies can be lost.

When we talk about meditation at Matcha Tea Haus we like to think of it in its most basic form. It is about resting the mind and coming into the present moment to obtain calm, clarity and focus. It can start from the moment we wake up, consciously opening our eyes, walking into the kitchen, and whisking up our morning Matcha Brew. There is something that awakens all the senses and opens the mind to experience everything in its purity. Taking that 5 minutes to enjoy the moment of peace, calm and presence puts everything into perspective. It is a grounding that we can come back to at any point in the day.

There are so many scientific studies that have revealed the benefits of meditation on the body, mind and soul. However, the greatest study you can do is for yourself, there is no need for a monk or temple, just spare yourself some time to enjoy a peaceful moment every day. Maybe it is with a refreshing green smoothie or a warm matcha brew, whatever your choice, experience the change for yourself and just matcha-tate. Pause. Be present. Find your clarity and focus.
