How do you tell when you Love someone more than they will ever love you?
The way they look at you is with spontaneous admiration
and sustained disdain.

You Kiss them
as if it will be the very last time you will,
While they kiss you
with the taste of obligation.
Love is not frequently patient or kind,
It is no pleasant Sunday
It'll make you lose your mind.

I pace,
I embrace,
I run
Only from you -
The man will never love me
in the same way I love him.

And my mother always told me
to love the man who levels you,
no matter how simplistic.
And you can never be that man to me.

Your annoyance with me
Hurts more than a fist fight.
Bruising my heart
and wearing further
on the framework of my innocence.

I will grow old without you
My children will not know your name
My heart will bear no strings
To our once short-lived love.
