Lug nuts need to have proper torque, so they keep the wheels seated properly to the hub on heavy duty trailers. Metal creep between the hub and wheel rim will also cause lug nuts to loosen, which could result in a wheel coming off. If a wheel comes off and hits someone, it could easily kill them, and will most certainly injure them, or damage vehicles or property. Make sure to tighten your lug nuts using a torque wrench according to the specifics in the manual of the used car trailer. If you don’t have a torque wrench, a lug wrench will do the job temporarily, but you should make sure to take the trailer to a garage as soon as possible to get them to tighten the lug nuts properly. Lug nuts on new trailers are more prone to loosen, whereas used car trailers do not have this problem as frequently. To avoid any potential issues, just carry out this check before each tow.
