Seriously? An App for Boyfriend Rental 🙄

A Bizarre app has been launched in Mumbai–named Rent A Boyfriend–claims to ‘cure depression’ by ‘renting a boyfriend’.
My first question to this effect was .. “ Then why are psychiatrists and psychologists in place? ”

To my surprise, he had already responded to this by saying “In India, people have that typical ‘Log Kya Kahengey’ reaction, the same response girls get when they wear short clothes.”

Really, Prakash ( The Entrepreneur behind this great idea ) .. You deserve slow claps. In which world is this guy living. How can one make such a negative prejudiced statement against women to defend his so called Solution to depression.

Let’s take a dig and see what this app all about. It is discriminatory in the first place wherein it segregates type of men into “ celebrity”, “model” and “aam aadmi” (kejriwal) who are available on hire for RS 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs 500-800 per hour respectively.

The men who will be available for such service are asked to be “well-behaved” and provide “emotional support” but the qualification required to exhibit these qualities is 10th and 12th pass. I mean at least you could have taken effort to profile them through third party consultants.

Also they are willing to take so called “guarantee” without any background check that there will be no sexual interaction or intimate relationship that will be resulted. On what basis can one be so confident especially when we have become an emerging rape nation.

Without giving this stupidity too much importance, all I can wonder is two things : how was this app funded and more importantly how can only one factor be generalized to cause depression.

This is just yet another tinder being marketed under the trend of upbringing the importance of mental health.

Lastly, one very easily pointed flaw.. if this app is really a feasible and reliable solution to the depression problem.. why does it have stripped men posing on promotional banners as well as within the app. It’s characterizing men on hotness level rather than some other measures that give out emotional quotient.

Wonder if they would risk to start a “Rent a Girlfriend” soon.

They do have a toll-free number wherein people can talk to professionals and share their problems but again the question of reliability. But if one is in depression, an unknown shoulder to cry on is also a good option.
