Nevis

Nevis was untouched by the bitter disputes affecting its near neighbour. It became the region’s most profitable Sugar Cane producer and was a major spa destination for Britain’s rich people.

Nevis is a short ferry ride from St Kitts. The capital, Charlestown, is far more charming than Basseterre. Alexander Hamilton was born here in 1757 and the Horatio Nelson Museum commemorates the time spent by Nelson in the Caribbean.

Nelson married Fanny Nisbet, the governor’s niece, so there is a strong Nevisian connection to the Admiral.

Nevis is covered in lush vegetation and the former sugar cane plantations have been turned into charming inns. The beaches are beautifully sandy and it pays to take your time here.
