Review Of “This Is Death, Love, Life” By Travis Liebert

Hello there, wonderfully and fearfully made and welcome to my blog. I hope your day has given you a reason to thank God and if it hasn’t, remember he loves you and you’re still alive. So today we will be doing something a little different, and its something I haven’t done before on this blog. Today we will be having a Book review! (I don’t have a name for the section of the blog, you can give me one).  Firstly, for all the prose lovers in the house, sorry, it’s not novel, it’s a chapbook, a book of poems, but stick around it’s a wonderful one.

So, some months ago a fellow poet by the name of Travis Leibert, sent me his chapbook to review and to be honest, I wasn’t so comfortable with it. I had never done a review before and I didn’t want to waste his time. But after reading a few pages into his book, I immediately felt blessed, it was a wonderful book and I was glad he gave me the chance to review it. So, this is not going be a typical review with all the big words and terms that may get you lost, I’ll be reviewing the book in my own way, the way I know best. Let’s get to the review:

This is Death, Love, Life

The book is titled “This is Death, Love, Life” by Travis Leibert. For those who may be fans of aesthetics, the book really has a nice cover, don’t worry you can judge this book by its cover. Something that I really liked about the book was how the title really suited the content in the book. This is a book on poems about Death, Love, and Life and I really loved the synchronization of the title and the rest of the book. It wasn’t one of those books where you read a title “Ducks” and the book is about robots, it really stuck with its title.

The book has a good blend of long and short poems to keep variety and keep things interesting. The combination of poems on death, love and life along with the variation of short and long poems kept the book interesting and is something that kept me glued.

The book begins with dark themed poems (light hearted people beware), I personally couldn’t see myself in the words because I’m more of a jovial person but even with personality differences I could still relate to the struggles of the person portrayed in the poems. As I read through his book, I realized the synchronization of is title with the content wasn’t a coincidence as he showed it a lot in most his poems. Another thing I loved was his ability to paint vivid images with his words, it was something that made the book a lot nicer. Being able to make readers visualize the words you write in their mind is an ability every poet needs, and Travis showed it in this book.

I really had a liking to the messages of the poem and the technique he used to deliver them. Some were with twists at the end, others with descriptions, the messages often moved me, and this was something that made me like the book more. He also showed good storytelling with his poems that kept me wrapped in, it was a good feeling.

His rhyming in the book was good but sometimes excessive and it was something that I noticed. Personally, I feel I noticed because I was looking out for them but don’t worry, it wasn’t bad. I also really liked his love poems, they made me want to be in love. The combination of twists, descriptions and word play made me like them more.

Overall, “This is Death, Love, Life” by Travis Leibert was a nice book. Had good poetry with all its elements, you need to read it too. Also, it’s 101 pages so don’t expect to finish it in one sitting, except if you’re special. To the light hearted, you might not be so joyful at the beginning, but I feel we all need to read poems like them to see what other people are going through, to teach us how to love more. You’re bound to find yourself in the words of this book, you’ll like it.
So that’s a wrap. I hope you enjoyed it. If you want a review of your book, let me know, but it might cost you a little. If you have read the book and have anything to add, please use the comment box. Thanks for stopping by.

Have a wonderful day
