Howdy friend or should I say Masterpiece (get used to that greeting by the way lol). Like always, I’m sure you’re having a great day.  If you are or aren’t having the best day,  I have good news for you because your day is about to get so much better and if you put to good use, would even make your life better!. What is it about?, How?,  might be some of the questions running through your mind. Well, with this piece I’m going to make you realize that you are a masterpiece. Now I want you to think of a gallery or a museum with all the masterpieces you’ve heard of or come across, the likes of Mona Lisa and so on. Now I want you to imagine going through that gallery and right there, in the midst of the priceless works is the most important work that this world has ever seen, that is YOU.  Before I fully dive into this, I want to present my poem, something for you to hold on to. Like the title of this post its titled Masterpiece.  

Masterpiece.

In this world filled with different souls,

Its hard to remain yourself as you go

Cause stones the world will throw,

All because you choose not to follow

If all you want for me,

Is to follow what you want me to do

Then how on earth,

Can we be labeled as different people

We should all wear the same name and face,

Since you want what’s unique in me

To disappear without a trace

You keep trying to change me,

All in the name of success

Claiming its all for my best

But the greatest is yet to be seen,

So why can’t you let me be

The world needs to stop trying to change me

I’m a masterpiece

One the world’s never seen

Who knows

Maybe the greatest there’ll ever be

Now that’s it. The inspiration to this shouldn’t be rocket science to you, because its something we all go through. At points in life, its like life keeps on Telling us what we should and should not do. Who we should and should not be, and many more. And this poem was one I wrote during that period.

Let me tell you my story, my experience, my inspiration. On starting this blog, I already knew what I wanted it to be. Unfortunately, not everyone felt like I knew what I was doing and kept on telling me what and what not to do. It entered my poetry, as people tried to tell me what to write, how to write. It seemed funny because I see poetry as a trip inside the poet’s mind and it made me wonder how it would be a trip into my mind if people kept on telling me what to write. This poem was my way of telling the world how I felt and I really hope you can relate to it. I won’t lie I had second thoughts, on if I was just being arrogant but I hung on to one word which happens to be the title of this post “Masterpiece“. I came to realize that I was a masterpiece, one that has never been seen by this world. I ran through their suggestions and tried to find myself in any of them, to find what I was comfortable with, made use of it and discarded the rest. Why? Because I’m a masterpiece. I wasn’t being arrogant, I was being unique. To be a masterpiece, you have to be special, be what hasn’t been done before and you can’t be that if you change to become what everyone wants you to be. Imagine how the world would be if all art looked exactly like Mona Lisa. And that’s what the world tries to do, after all she’s a masterpiece so let everyone be exactly her. But its up to you to find how to be your own masterpiece, in your own unique way. Now my admonition is to remain a masterpiece, be open to suggestions from the world to see if you can find yourself in them and work on them, but ultimately don’t change for anyone, remain a masterpiece. Working on suggestions isn’t changing, its like adding more bricks to an already started building, but changing is demolishing it to start from scratch. The golden rule is never change for anyone, you might not be perfect but there’s perfection to your imperfection.
