Review of Magic for Nothing by Seanan McGuire

Youngest Price sibling Antimony is finally stepping into the spotlight for her own Story in the sixth InCryptid story, Magic for Nothing.Annie is being asked by her family to go undercover with the Covenant of St. George now that her sister Verity has declared war on them live on television. Annie’s not too thrilled by the idea of being sent into enemy territory. Her first assignment sends her right back to America to join a carnival and find out why local boys are disappearing when this carnival is in town. Things are not going to be going Annie’s way. Will she be able to come out of this assignment unscathed or will she have to kill to stay alive?

First of all, the Aeslin Mice! They are the best thing to have happened in fantasy fiction in a very long time. How can you not love talking mice? Second, Antimony! I’ve been wanting her to get her own story for a while now. Her siblings have had their adventures and met their significant others, it’s Annie’s turn. Only, her story doesn’t turn out the way you wanted it to. I was devastated by the ending. It’s just so sad. I can only hope things will get better for her in the next book, Tricks for Free.
