A Dutch mobile bank Bunq was hit by a DDoS attack, putting its servers down. The company worked "around the clock" to battle and mitigate the attach, and was able to keep some of its services online, according to Djurre Njip, the company's representative.
While investigating into the matter and finding out who was the culprit, the Perpetrator apparently went to the company's office and confessed. He was an 18-year old school student that goes with the name "J".
According to Njip:
Rather than calling the police, Bunq decided to not to press charges on the boy, "which could result in one year of prison time along with hefty fines. Effectively destroying his life.".
The reason for J to do such a thing, was because Bunq had raised its monthly subscription from €1 to €7.99 per month.
That angered many Bunq's users, and many of them took the matter to Twitter to complain. But as for J, he decided to purchase some botnets to initiate a DDoS attack.
