New York is known for its impressive repertoire of Rooftop bars scattered across the city, offering stunning views of the skyline from every angle. While they tend to be more of a summer destination, they can be just as enjoyable in the Winter, with a few even getting into festive spirit. Check out our favorite New York rooftop venues and plan your next weekend excursion!

Arlo Artica

Arlo Artica is the Arlo Hotel’s take on a winter wonderland. Drawing inspiration from Sir Ernest Shackleton’s 1907 Antarctic expedition into the South Pole, this themed oasis features a special cocktail menu using Shackleton Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, in honor of the crates of whisky brought on the expedition to keep the explorers warm.

At the NoMad location, enjoy the views from inside of one of their heated igloos at The Heights, their rooftop bar on the 31st floor complete with cozy winter furnishings and bottle service. Take a look at the artifacts from Shackleton on the second floor of the hotel, as well as the ice sculptures and other winter-themed items.

While not on a rooftop, Arlo’s Soho location is transforming their courtyard in the spirit of the expedition. On-site greenhouses are converted into ice huts with blankets and heaters to keep you snug. To enhance the wintery experience, snow is blasted every hour, making it a true winter wonderland.

Open through March 2019; Monday–Wednesday: 4PM–12AM, Thursday–Sunday: 12PM– 1AM

230 Fifth Avenue is home to one of New York’s largest rooftop spaces with a spectacular view of the Empire State Building. Every year, the expansive space transforms into a winter oasis with a crop of heated, transparent igloos with seating for up to 12 guests. With 17 igloos available this year, make sure to arrive early to ensure seating, as igloos are filled on a first come, first serve basis.

While waiting for a coveted seat, slip into one of their complimentary red robes and grab a warm specialty drink off their menu. Choose from virgin or spiked varieties of coffee, cider, and hot chocolate to get in the festive mood.

Open through May 2019; Monday–Friday: 2PM–Late, Saturday and Sunday: Brunch 10AM–4PM

The lush greenery and dangling lights of Gallow Green’s rooftop bar are nowhere to be seen in their annual cabin-themed transformation during the winter months. Designed to resemble a cozy alpine retreat in a ski lodge, the bar offers guests special winter cocktails and seasonal bites, plus an eclectic mix of cozy seating options. Get comfortable in one of the bunk beds while reading one of the books up for grabs, sit at a desk covered in rolled parchment and pine cones, or simply unwind while sitting in a canoe. This mountain getaway comes complete with an outdoor area with a working fire pit surrounded by an evergreen forest.

Escape the freezing cold and stop by SERRA ALPINA by Birreria, the winter pop-up on the rooftop bar of Eataly’s Flatiron location. This fantastical European space draws inspiration from the Stella Alpina, a rare flower found in the Italian Alps throughout northern Italy. Twinkling lights, dangling red and white flowers, warm wooden accents, and forest greenery along with breathtaking views of the city set the mood for a delightful evening.

Snack on a menu featuring a mix of Northern Italian fare and Alps-inspired dishes, ranging from a variety of cheeses to pillowy gnocchi to the classic raclette, a melting half wheel of cheese. Sample their curated menu of glacier wines, craft cocktails infused with mountain herbs, extensive set of bitters, or housemade Vin Brule, an Italian take on mulled wine steeped in spices and orange peels.
