Air Scrubbers – Controlling Dust during Construction Cleanup

Air Scrubbers

Air Scrubbers eliminate Dust during construction. They are small, portable machines that pull in dust and filter out clean air. The Air Scrubbers can vent out windows.

Filters are expensive and need replacement every twenty minutes. Air scrubbers are a burden for contractors because rental units run $150 to $200 per week for air scrubbers. Dri-Eaz makes them, but their focus is on mold and fire restoration.

BuildClean (as shown in the photo, sells instead of rents to contractors for $980 a unit. It has six times more filter area and it offers 360 degree dust-catching than its competitors. The fan RPMs increase as the filter loads with dust so the machine does not slow down. Additionally, the machine alerts workers it is time to replace the filter.

The BuildClean filter can last for two days during drywall or sanding, about four hours while removing horsehair plaster, and about an hour while doing concrete demolition. During an average job, the filter lasts a full day.

A cubic foot of air in a typical office environment contains 30,000 to 50,000 particles of dust larger than 0.5 microns. That number increases to 700,000 to one million particles per cubic foot during a remodel.

Nonetheless, collectively using tools with vacuums, barriers, and filtration systems are effective at eliminating and containing dust.
