What Did We Learn During Study Leave this Year?


We believe it’s important to take some time for ourselves, step outside the office and do a little studying to continually develop our Digital Marketing skills. 

Whether it’s swotting for a qualification, escaping the distractions of the office to compete in-depth research or to attend an industry event, the big boss allows us all multiple Study Days each year to hone our tech skills. 

So, what did the staff here at Liberty learn (besides how to not get changed out of their pyjamas all day) during their study days over the last year? We asked and they answered:


Gurner’s Angels a.k.a. The PPC Team 


To incentivise learning, Head of PPC Chris presented his team with a challenge: the person who completed and passed the most educational courses and certifications by the end of the financial year won a mystery prize. And of course, nothing gets a marketer into action quite like competition. 

The winner was soon apparent as Senior PPC Coordinator David completed 7 Google AdWords and Analytics certifications, a Bing qualification, Twitter Flight School and all 49 of Facebook’s Blueprints within weeks. He left most of the team in his dust, apart from eager new member of the team Alix who was biting at his heels. 


The Copytastics 


Our in-house wordsmiths had the most varied learning matter of all our departments. From social influencer and guest blog research, to grammar and tone of voice sessions, there was a vast array of knowledge crammed into their skulls. 

Like the PPC team, Steph completed Twitter Flight School, all 49 Facebook Blueprints and began studying for the Google Analytics IQ exam, while also using a day to attend the digital marketing Mecca - Brighton SEO. 

Whereas our resident fashionista, Rosella spent her days typing away and creating a ginormous blog piece exploring the topic of fast fashion and online ecommerce stores (watch this space for publication). 

Senior Copywriter Phil, who heads up the team, has been speaking at industry events and has taken part in training to learn how to, well… train.

The SEO Squad 


Some of our sensational SEOs decided to complete their usual workloads from the comfort of their home sofa and others took the time to familiarise themselves with the industries we work with.

Digital Coordinator Becky used her study days to watch the latest tutorials and read beginners guides to PPC, so to better understand what her colleagues do and provide more educated answers to any client queries. 

Her fellow SEOs Sam and Jenna spent a day delving into delivery and reporting processes for consultancy projects. Sam then spent the rest       of his Study Leave on what he called ”sexy things” like content management.
