Funk in the trunks: men's swimwear gets into punchy Hawaiian prints

Even if you're typically a solids and neutrals kind of guy, why not let loose a little this Long Weekend and put a little funk in your trunks? Yep, we're talking men's swimwear in crazy Hawaiian and tropical prints — just the thing to jazz up your long weekend.

Florals and other busy island-inspired prints aren't exactly a hot new trend in men's bathing suits. Actually, they're a classic. But while they hit maximum popularity in the 60s, they died down a bit in the following decades — that is, until this most recent wave of graphic swim trunks hit in all its floral freshness.

Plenty of today's top men's designers are reviving this retro swimwear look, with lush, graphic swimsuits that harken back to a time when Cocktail Umbrellas were still a novel concept. Mixing the old with the new, labels like Marc Jacobs and Stussy have been bringing vintage Hawaiian Prints to contemporary swim short cuts.

Conversely, labels like Australia's Afends have preserved the retro appeal of a shorter cut (à la Don Draper on vacation) in their own floral Depths short, while updating the typical floral motif with a cool, kaleidoscopic effect.

Whatever the length, though, we're digging the Hawaiian punch of this latest men's swimwear, and looking forward to the kind of holiday weather that lets us get a little retro this long weekend (no cocktail umbrellas, though, please!)
