Porsche Boxster 986 Squealing or Squeacking Noise when starting engine

Hi guys, if you own a Porsche Boxster 986 and you hear a squeaking noise only when you start the engine for like 2 seconds chances are that your Starter is causing that noise. The squeal only appears when starting the engine, as soon as the starter disengages the squealing stops, starter needs a rebuilt or replacement. If you do have a squealing noise you must diagnoses it properly before changing the starter, make sure that its not a belt that's causing it, normally a belt will squeal for a few seconds or if the squealing is always present  it could be the belt or even a pulley (alternator, water pump etc...) or even a drive belt pulley or tensioner, if you suspect that's its coming from the starter, start by removing the drive belt and start eliminating by starting the engine without the drive belt, if the squealing stops its not your starter it may be your belt or a pulley, inspect the drive belt and look for cracks or if its too dry replace it, turn the pulleys by hand and make sure there's no abnormal resistance or that you don't feel that the pulleys are not turning smooth that could be your problem as well. I had this problem and by eliminating as explained above it pointed to the starter, starter replacement will take approx 2 hours. The starter is located just below the throttle body, you will need to remove the plenum and throttle body as an entire assembly and from there remove the the starter.

Hope you enjoyed.

Happy Motoring.
