The Third Anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting

Today, December 14, 2015, is the third anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. It was a tragic event that took the lives of 20 children and six adults in Newtown, Connecticut. Adam Lanza, a 20-year-old man, took three guns and a military vest from his home in the morning on the day of the incident and at around 9:30 a.m., authorities received their first report of a shooting.

According to the reports, the doors to the school were locked at the time Lanza arrived, but he used an automatic weapon to create an entrance for himself. He then proceeded with his tragic act before taking his own life. This was an incident that garnered a lot of media attention and proved that our schools must utilize more safety and Emergency procedures. Security measures must be heightened in order to prevent situations like this from happening in the future at schools across the country.

Schools should increase the Security Measures and monitoring of any visitors who enter the grounds. There must also be emergency protocols that faculty can utilize in order to secure classrooms and offices. This will allow teachers and students to know what they should do in the event of an emergency such as this.

At Paulson Coletti, we are dedicated to the safety of individuals in all kinds of situations. We know how devastating this event was for all involved. We take the time today to remember the victims and send our condolences to the families who lost loved ones that day. We encourage schools at all levels to take steps towards a more secure, safer property. The school has a duty to protect all those who enter the grounds and taking the first step means increasing the safety, security, and emergency measures.
