5 Smart Tips for Storing Your Holiday Décor

Decorating for the holidays is one of the most fun parts of the season. It’s great to give your home a seasonal flair to help you get into the spirit. However, the process of taking down and storing all of those decorations is a little less fun. Keeping your Holiday décor organized is a key step in making the process of putting everything away a lot quicker and easier. We’ve put together some tips that will streamline your holiday storage so that both putting up and taking down your décor is a smoother process.
Holiday Décor Storage Tips

Use color-coded boxes
Storing your holiday items in a garage, attic, or closet with other miscellaneous storage can quickly get confusing if all of the boxes are the same color. While labels are an important aspect of organized storage, they’re not always easy to see at a glance. To make things easier, dedicate a specific color to your holiday décor, such as red or green bins. That way, you’ll be able to reach for all of the holiday décor right away when the season rolls around, and it will even make moving easier if you do so in the future. Everything will also look a lot more organized.

Label and inventory everything
After color-coding your storage bins, the next step is to label them by number and inventory the items. Having an inventory of everything makes it easy for you to refer to the exact box you need if you’re looking for something specific, like the box of ornaments or a vintage family heirloom. You won’t have to go rummaging around for that specific piece of décor you need. As a bonus, everything will already be inventoried so when it comes time to move, you’re one step ahead.

Pack carefully
Holiday décor tends to include a lot of fragile and delicate items. It’s important to make sure they are packed in a careful manner so that when the next year rolls around, you don’t come across any upsetting surprises. Keep small items in small boxes, crates or tins with paper or bubble wrap around them to protect them. Always fill in empty spaces with padding, too, to prevent shifting and subsequent damages.

Take advantage of layering
Make the most of a box by properly layering your items. Start with the heaviest items on the bottom, then work your way up with things gradually getting lighter in weight. Make sure everything is secure and nothing is sticking up awkwardly. If it is, fill in around it with something like packing paper or towels.

Choose a dedicated spot
Instead of fitting in your holiday storage bins wherever you can find space, clear a dedicated spot just for your holiday items. Keeping your storage space organized like this will make it much easier to find what you need, as well as make the space itself look much more appealing.
