NYC Weekend Guide for May 27 – 28, 2017

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

As the unofficial start to the summer season kicks off, the city is packed with things to see and do as always. With Fleet Week in town, art exhibits on display, food festivals to enjoy and so much more, there’s definitely something for everyone this weekend here in the Big Apple! Here are just a few of this weekend’s events and activities.

Fleet Week

Fleet Week is back in town! This weeklong celebration honors members of the United States Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard here in the city in spectacular fashion. Events and activities can be found at Pier 92 in Manhattan, USS The Sullivans Pier in Staten Island, Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Memorial Monument and many other places throughout the city. Head down to Battery Park for some incredible views of real life Navy ships!

Memorial Day Parade

Celebrate our nation’s heroes at one of the city’s Memorial Day Parades! The city’s largest parade starts on Grand Avenue and 72nd Street in Queens at 1PM, while other parades include Brooklyn’s Memorial Day Parade at Third Avenue and 78th Street at 10AM, the Bronx’s Memorial Day Parade on City Island and Staten Island’s parade on Forest Avenue. Manhattan also hosts the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Memorial Day Observance at Riverside Drive and 89th Street.

The Great Brooklyn Grill Out

Kick off the summer at the city’s biggest barbecue! Featuring noted chefs like Michael Yapi and George Motz, this fun and tasty event offers some of the best hot dogs, hamburgers and ribs in the country. Takes place on Saturday at One University Plaza in Brooklyn.

Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit

Fans of contemporary art will definitely want to hit up the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit starting this Saturday at Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village. Don’t miss this!

The Philip K. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival

Are you a fan of science fiction movies? Head on over to the Philip K. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival this weekend to celebrate the works of the acclaimed sci-fi writer. Takes place at various locations throughout the city. More information can be found at www.thephilipkdickfilmfestival.com.

Hit Up the City’s Beaches

Memorial Day marks the opening of the Big Apple’s beaches! Head on over to Coney Island, the Rockaways and more for the start of summer!

Discover the City’s Military History

This weekend offers the perfect time to discover the city’s rich military history. Head over to Governors Island to explore War of 1812-era forts or Battery Park to learn about the fascinating history of the historic Castle Clinton. On the West Side of Manhattan, the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum is a great place to learn about the World War II-era USS Intrepid as well as other military vessels and the Space Shuttle Enterprise.
