Fenty Beauty – I finally tried it! Galaxy Collection Review

If you are a beauty junkie then you will have heard of Fenty Beauty, created by Rihanna and launched a few months ago to much fuss (I believe they still queue for hours to be shade matched on the counters at Harvey Nichols stores in the UK), and I have to admit, even I was suckered in by the hype.  The range, amongst other things, boasts 40 Shades of foundations to cater for all, and on it’s initial release seemed very focused on base products but then with it’s seasonal release, came eyeshadow and lip colours.

After adding hundreds of pounds of making up to my shopping cart, I managed to ask myself out of all of the purchases after watching some You Tube videos where the products looked just ok.

However – I could not resist the seasonal launch:

The Fenty Galaxy collection comprises of an eyeshadow palettes, lip sticks, lip glosses and glittery eyeliners. The emphasis on Glitter. I simply adore glitter, it gives me life so of course I had to buy something from the range. First off the outer packaging – gorgeous. Love the glittery text on the main box (I threw them away cos I have enough clutter but really stunning outer packaging).

Which brings me on to the petrol finish of this palette.

It is really beautiful to behold – it is also heavy weight and study. There are problems though – it is a little tricky to open and the first palette I got had a deep scratch on the front and my OCD just wouldn’t let me keep it. So this is my second palette but I have accepted that due to how it looks it will get snatched and get lots of horrible greasy finger marks on it.

Here are the names of the shades:

The shades are named after space themed things….it is an all glitter palette. Is it versatile? Well to me it is. I am not looking for a palette that has ‘everything’ in the sense that I need a base shade, a highlighter, a liner, contour etc. No it isn’t that. But it is a really comprehensive collection of metallics, glitters, shimmers.  Colourful but pretty and wearable too. I don’t have any other palette in my collection like it.

The shades which I simply can’t capture properly on camera to show you how pretty it is.

Swatches:

From left to right –

1. Oh-Zone – White frost glitter with some pigment.

2. Xtra Terrestrial – Blackened olive with gold and green sparkles

3. Mars On Fire – Orangey red gold glitter

4. Cosmic Ocean – Sheer light blue glitter top coat

5. Ultraviolet – Plum pigment with blue shimmer

6. Light Year – Dirty black gold with copper

7. Midnight Bold – Bold turquoise, not as glittery as I expected

8. Meteor Crush – My favourite shade – Golden peach

9. Sublime – Light golden green, a little sheer

10. Planet Ex – Brown with gold gliter

11. Space Owl – Medium purple, not that pigmented with blue sparkles

12. Jupiter Sand – Dark espresso with a bit of neutral glitter

13. Milky Way – Creamy metallic white

14. Sunburst – A sheer golden metallic tangerine

I totally get why this palette isn’t for everyone but as a glitter fan I LOVE it. I wear glitter almost all the time on my eyes and I will use it with a neutral matte in my crease and it works for me.  I would wear ANY of these shades depending on my mood. I find them quite fun, although some are more gritty and sheer than others (Cosmic Ocean is an example) and they are a little harder to apply for that reason. You can pat it on to a wet primer though and it then lasts quite well although there is some fallout on the cheeks.

At £39 I don’t think it’s a bad price AT ALL for 14 shades. Buy it here.

I also bought two lip products – I couldn’t decide between the peach or pinks but in the end, the peaches won.

Supermoon is the lipstick (£16) which is a sheer shimmery light peach. The packaging is lush again with that petrol finish but I have to say this lipstick is totally acceptable but I don’t love it. It’s quite light on me and looks like a shimmer balm.

I match it up with the Cosmic lip gloss (also £16) in Space Suit which is a peach laden with iridescent multi hued glitter. I love this – it reminds me of MAC Dazzleglass.

So here is the kind of look I do for every day life using these products.

This is the lipstick and gloss, then I use Meteor Crush on my lids and Jupiter Sands in the crease on my eyes.

Also important to note – the eyeshadows swatch better on my arm than when used on the eyes. I am not saying they are the easiest to use but I still love the colours and it’s been a fun addition to my make up bag.  The service from Harvey Nichols was fine too (apart from the scratched palette thing).

Will I be buying any more Fenty? Yes! Why not. The range is cool and fun, and I want to support a range that caters to so many women.

Have you tried anything from Fenty?
