Romelu Lukaku is exerting influence on Manchester United dressing room already.

Romelu Lukaku has quickly set about marking his territory at Manchester United and has already become a key figure in the club’s dressing room, according to reports.

The Red Devils lost Wayne Rooney over the summer, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still undergoing rehabilitation, leaving a leadership vacuum, and replacement skipper Michael Carrick has not been the only player to fill that void.

According to the Manchester Evening News, younger players have started to find their voice and Lukaku has made an instant impact at Old Trafford since making a £75 million move to the club from Everton.

Firstly he boldly stepped up to take on penalty duties from Rooney, the previous go-to spot-kick taker – though he did miss one against Leicester City – and has also made his presence felt in other ways. The Belgian is said to ‘regularly berate’ Daley Blind for his service, demanding the Dutch defender provide him with better quality passes and crosses.

But perhaps the biggest star of United’s new-look dressing room hierarchy is Ander Herrera, who – despite finding himself on the bench this season – has been very vocal in getting his teammates to perform at their highest level.

According to MEN, he motivated his teammates for the Champions League tie against CSKA Moscow, has been giving Eric Bailly defensive tips and reminded players who to mark from the touchline against Crystal Palace.

Mourinho deliberately made a point of not appointing a vice-captain and will already feel like that decision has paid off. Lukaku, Herrera and Paul Pogba have all shown real leadership qualities on and off the pitch this season, and that has helped propel United up the Premier League table, level on points with rivals City.
