These are the world’s highest-paid actors in 2017

If you’re an actor, you quickly learn that certain roles are financially more rewarding than others. In recent years, getting the lead in an action flick or donning tights for a superhero franchise can mean an exorbitant payday.

Forbes has released its annual list of highest-paid actors in the world, and cumulatively, these 10 actors earned an incredible $720 million between June 1, 2016 and June 1, 2017. The Earnings are based on estimates established via data from Nielsen, ComScore, Box Office Mojo and IMDB, as well as interviews with industry insiders, and are all before taxes and fees.

While the list is traditionally dominated by American actors, this year’s list has four names from overseas that are making a big splash on the silver screen.

Being a superhero will certainly net you an impressive pay day, but it’s not quite enough to get you the biggest paycheque in Hollywood. (Marvel Studios / Paramount Pictures).

This Bollywood heavyweight drew in some big bucks with the four films he appeared in during the period Forbes tracked. He’s likely to fare well on next year’s list, too, thanks to the recently released Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, screening both in India and theatres across North America, that has grossed $22.7 million in two weeks.

No. 5: Jackie Chan
Past year’s earnings: $49 million
Chan continues to be one of the hottest stars in China’s film scene, and is no slouch in the rest of the world, either. Most of this year’s income came from movies in Mainland China, like Railroad Tigers and Kung Fu Yoga.

No. 4: Adam Sandler
Past year’s earnings: $50.5 million
A lucrative deal with Netflix continues to result in a hefty payday for Sandler. Despite being poorly rated on Rotten Tomatoes (a resounding 0 per cent), Sandler’s The Ridiculous 6 became the most-watched movie on Netflix in its first month. Maybe that estimated $250 million he’s been given for four films may be worth it after all.

Both of Diesel’s action film series got installments in the past year, with xXx: The Return of Xander Cage and The Fate of the Furious both becoming hits with audiences worldwide.
