Liverpool beauty queen crowned first ever Mrs Beauty Curve 2017 after battling her demons and learning to embrace her body

A Liverpool beauty queen was crowned as the very first Mrs Beauty Curve after battling her demons and learning to embrace her body, Liverpool Echo reports.

Sophie Leah Brady entered the competition this year with hopes of finally winning a crown after coming in third last year.

The 26-year-old, from Everton , took the crown on Saturday and aims to spend her reign inspiring other women to have the confidence to show themselves off.

She told ECHO: “When I entered I thought pageants were all about wearing pretty dresses and looking glam, they are so much more than that.

“The amazing women that I have met have inspired me to be more confident and to use my title as a platform to help others.”

The 5”2 performing arts teacher plans to join forces with past winners to support they charity FAB – Fight Against Bullying.

“It is a really amazing charity and it is all about teaching people to accept each other for who they are and not attack others for doing the same.

“I am not your average plus size model, I’m only 5”2 but the confidence the competition has given me is unbelievable and I want to help others feel the same.”

Sophie’s husband Michael was there cheering her on throughout the competition and managed to capture the moment she was given her crown.

She added: “He is my number one fan. He was right there in the front row and I really don’t think I could have done it without him.

“We all should have someone in our corner, spurring us on and supporting us the entire way, I’d love to use my position to do that for others.”

Newly-crowned champ Sophie is keen for people to accept that being overweight doesn’t necessarily mean you’re unhealthy.

Before the competition, size 16-18 Sophie said: “Something has just clicked in my head and I’ve finally learnt to embrace my shape and size.

“I go to the gym two or three times a week and I have no health problems, I take no medication, my blood pressure’s fine and doctors say I’m perfectly healthy.

“Everyone assumes people who are overweight are unhealthy, but that’s just not the case. Some people are made to be a certain size and we need to get rid of the stigma around that.”

“This year I’m going to wear a bikini for the swimwear round, which is quite daunting for me after years of feeling self conscious on holiday, but my confidence has sky rocketed over the past few months, and it will be a real achievement for me.”

Liverpool-based booby-trapp corsets designed Sophie’s showstopping outfit for the Glitz and Glamour portion of the competition.

She wore a Wonder Woman inspired costume and carried a flag with the words “We are all Wonder Women“ in order to show how beauty doesn’t come in one shape.

Speaking about what she gained from the competition, Sophie said: “If I can convince one woman to go to the beach and wear a bikini and feel happy about it, then I have done my job.

“We should all feel comfortable in our own skin.

“Take off that sarong girl!”
