MM Hill’s Trip

Male Mahadeshwara Hills (MM Hills) is a pilgrim place located in Chamarajanagar district, Karnataka. The ancient Sri Male Mahadeshwara temple amidst dense forest is a very popular Shaiva pilgrim centre. The temple attracts a lot of pilgrims and nature lovers. MM Hills is about 3000 feet above sea level. One has to climb up seven mountains and climb down seven mountains to reach the temple. The temple is surrounded by thirty three mountains. MM Hills is bound by the Kaveri river in north-east and by the Palar river in south.

Distance:

  • 150 km from Mysore
  • 210 km from Bengaluru

Present Living Condition:

  • Scarcity of water
  • No electricity in the villages – Padasulanatha, Nagamale, Tulsikare and Indiginatha.
  • Inaccessible roads
  • No basic healthcare facilities
  • Donkeys and jeeps are the mode of transportation for goods and people to these villages
  • The people in these villages grow Ragi and Avare, but the major source of revenue is earned by selling firewood.

Major challenges faced by the School:

  • Poor infrastructure
  • Lack of basic facilities
  • Right from drinking water to books, stationery, uniforms and other provisions to prepare food under the mid-day meal scheme has to be carried on the back of the donkeys to these schools from MM temple.
  • Number of students ranges from 230 – 280 in all the four schools put together & they have 1 teacher per school
