A sick fascination arouses me
whenever I turn on the news.

What new disgusting perversion
will greet me?

Alternative facts are so passé.

What grosser distortions of
American political, lingual and ideological institutions
will be fobbed off as the new normal?

This stuff used to live under a rock.
Now it’s in the spotlight,
on the front page.

The ratings have never been higher.
The newspapers are back.

The dark, perverse and once unthinkable
is becoming common place.

We have a front row seat.

Unlike traditional porn
which sickens after awhile,
this disgusts instantly.

Unlike traditional porn
about which we had a choice,
political porn and the metaphysical shift
it entails
is pervasive.

We have no choice.
We participate in spite of ourselves
horrified and aroused by fear.
