Embezzlement Charge for Camarillo Accountant

A volunteer for a Camarillo non-profit faces Embezzlement charges following her arrest. Members of the non-profit reported the suspected theft to police in October.

The woman provided accounting services for the Topa Topa Flywheelers Antique Gas Engine and Tractor Club. According to the club’s Facebook page, they collect, restore, display, show and demonstrate antique farm equipment. They also educate others about the Ojai Valley’s past agricultural practices. The woman volunteered with the organization between April and October 2018. During that time, she wrote checks to herself from the organization’s account and then deposited them into her personal bank account.

Investigators determined that the non-profit lost more than $60,000 while the woman volunteered there. The association now reports that its bank account has no money in it. The suspect, a 29 year old woman from West Hills, apparently spent the money on personal purchases, travel and entertainment. Investigators believe that she spent all of the funds she transferred to herself.

Officers arrested the woman in December and booked her into the Ventura County Jail. Prosecutors charged her with one felony count of Grand Theft and one felony count of check forgery. The woman has pleaded not guilty to both counts. She requested to be released on her own recognizance, but the judge denied that request. Following her arraignment, she posted a $10,000 bond. She will return to court on January 28 on matters related to her case. If convicted, she faces a sentence of up to three years in jail on each charge.
